Unsolicited Planning Advice

September 12, 2018

Just starting out wedding planning? I got married last year, so I know how daunting the whole process is! I just wanted to write down a few tips I learnt along the way before they become distant memories. Because while I LOVED getting married, planning a wedding isn't a process I'm in a hurry to do again any time soon.

1) Budget

You've only got so much money. Before you commit to executing the perfect Pinterest wedding, have a sit down with your partner. Attached is a document of all the things I can think of that you might need during a wedding. Print a sheet off for each of you and fill it in separately; it will help you figure out where your priorities are, and where majority of your budget should be spent.

2) Getting organised
Set up a wedding email address. Tobi from Circle the Date passed this tip onto me, and now I' m handing it on to you. Having all of your vendor emails in one place, and not hiding amongst the latest Peter Alexander release and your electricity bill makes getting sorted SO MUCH EASIER. Trust me on this one.

3) Trust your vendors

When I met my photographer; I trusted her immediately. She knew the wedding industry, this is her bread and butter. So when I started my hunt for a videographer, I asked her first. Ask your vendors for tips! A perfectly curated Instagram feed doesn't necessarily convey the quality of the vendor. Take advice from people who have worked alongside other industry professionals.

4) Contracts are important

Guys, read the fine print. Read those contracts. Know what to expect of your vendors, and know how you're going to be protected too. Contracts are pretty essential to me as a customer, as it outlines all the nitty-gritty details that you probably haven't dealt with before. Don't skip the fine print!

5) Invest where it counts

Look, I know I said for you to spend your money where it's important to you, but just remember this. No one goes to a wedding for the little keepsake bottle openers or stubby holders; they don't make a great wedding. Guests want good food, plenty to drink, and a fun night. Spend money on the people who create or capture the memories of your day/night. Because at the end of the day, all you'll be left with is photos, videos and memories. A memorable ceremony with a kick-ass celebrant is a solid investment.

And of course, for the best wedding vendors all under one roof, head to this Sunday's Love Cherish Adore fair at Plant 4 Bowden. Come say hi to me!
